GABORONE:Tennis Team Botswana ladies double madeup of the all prospective Tshegofatso Tsiang and rawly talented Leungo Monnawo gave their Malawians counterparts Linda Msiska and Winnie Kadamanja a lifetime tennis lesson to advance to the finals after dominantly edging over by 6-0,6-1 at the ongoing AUSC region 5 games Gaborone 2018 held at the famous slaughter house Notwane Courts today.
Nine countries participating at arguably the biggest regional sporting stage featured the sport of tennis as one of the 10 codes. In tennis each nation was required to select only 4 under 20 players. Two boys, two girls. In the order of play ,Botswana girls Tsiang(17) and Monnawo(14) partnered to match with Malawian girls Linda(17) and Winnie(19) as they simple revolted against the poor away side of the Sourtheasten African Nation.
Team Botswana and Team Malawi came to the second round with a bye.Although the match was not freely flowing as it would have been expected.Tsiang used her international exotic exposure and experience to tag along Monnawo when tactically approaching the two sets, playing a good inconsistent combination of crosscourts, forehands, backhands and a bit of huge brutalizes rather than hopeless baselines from their Malawians counterparts. The first set was a competitive one for the away side Malawi though characterized by a huge dismal loss of 6-0.
In the second set the Malawians showed symptoms of fatigue and less confidence in their game.Tsiang elaborates that they are happy with the results as it turned to be a good day in office for them and country.
“…for us it was mostly not to make mistakes first of all and also just to move them out of court so that we can have the open court to finish the points”notes Tsiang.
On the other hand,Linda says it was a good learning curve for them going forward.
“next time we will do better and we will continue to train hard and we told our coach to push us from other state to other state in the lookout for competitive games”said Winnie.
The match ended 6-0,6-1 to Botswana to make a date with the winner between team Zimbabwe and Namibia in the semi-finals.
The matches will continue tomorrow from 9am featuring advanced stages of mixed doubles, doubles men, doubles woman, men singles tagging big house hold names such as Mehluli Sibanda,Tshepo Mosarwe and
women singles Tsiang and Kaome Munashe.
