Like many football Presidents in the past, the outgoing BFA President Maclean Letswiti is seeking a reinstatement as the BFA President.SPORTSNATION staffer Kabelo Seleka chit chats with Killerpass’s Mzambo Kgaogano.
TALKING POINTS
  • The importance of continuity
  • Dependence of Letswiti on voters
  • Floor crossing in football
  • All eyes on Letswiti/Sebego

MACLEAN LETSWITI’S SECOND TERM IS KEY FOR BOTSWANA FOOTBALL

Mzambo Kgaogano has stated that it is significant to have continuity in the leadership and programs brought fourth by Maclean Letswiti regime.
He has narrated how the previous BFA Presidents were not able to continue with their mandate due to being elected for only one term thus Botswana football not growing.
The insightful football analyst has lamented to this publication’s reporter that in most cases of the former BFA Presidents, they came up with great initiatives and programs but due only one term in office, the ideas collapsed as new leadership is ushered with new and fresh ideas.
“For once in Botswana football we should see continuity in the Presidency, they all came and go,prior to the elections the outgoing Presidents argue that they did not finish what they started,in my view i wish to see continuity in the recent Letswiti programs such as club transformation, opined Mzambo Kgolagano.”
The Killerpass’s football goggle Mzambo Kgaogano has however advised that whoever wins should continue with the groundwork that is already in existence.

LETSWITI’S PRESIDENCY DEPENDS ON BFA STRUCTURES

Maclean Letswiti’s fate is to be decided by the BFA delegates at the elective AGM, suggests Mzambo Kgaogano.
Mzambo Kgolagano has hinted that in order for Maclean Letswiti to win the second term and continue as BFA President,it will all depend on how well he and his team has been working with other BFA structures.
“For Maclean Letswiti to win the elections it will all depend on how well he has been working with his structures, whatever he has been trying to do,and how the message and projects to the delegates has been received ,that is when they will decide whether it is important for them to to give him the second term,to push the projects in motion or not, said Mzambo Kgaogano.”
He continued to elaborate that his administration’s projects in women football, regional football and the elite league will win him votes.
The Assembly is made up of 17 regions with two representatives each,16 Botswana Premier League teams reps, eight first division football representatives and two for women football reps.

FLOOR CROSSING MAY COST LETSWITI A SECOND TERM

Killerpass Kingpin Mzambo Kgaogano has observed that the floor crossing by some of members of the BFA National Executive Committee(NEC) may cost Maclean Letswiti one too many votes to retain his seat as BFA President.
“One thing i see as a downfall of Letswiti is that a new NEC is elected come the election period some people who have been part and parcel of the programs become opposition now, said Mzambo Kgolagano.”
He has also noted that the ideas by floor crosser may be adopted at their new lobbyists and used to sell to voters resulting in a potential loss at the elections.
The 2016 Team Letswiti has notably seen the transfer of Senki Sesinyi and Maokaneng Bontshetse to Team Sebego in 2020 BFA elections.
Meanwhile Team Letshwiti has however recruited Masego Ntshingane to their camp.
MALESU REMAINS THE UNDERDOG AS ALL EYES ARE ON LETSWITI AND SEBEGO
Oekeditse Malesu remains the underdog of the trio vying for the BFA hot seat, commented Mzambo Kgaogano.
Mzambo Kgaogano mentioned that though Oekeditse Malesu had a short stint as BFA CEO he is relatively unknown in football circles.
He remarked that Oekeditse Malesu is the underdog because Tebogo Sebego is the predecessor to Maclean Letswiti presidency and Letswiti is the incumbent BFA President.Furthermore,Sebego worked as BFA legal advisor before his ambitions of the presidency.
Maclean Letswiti had in the past announced that he will not be needing another term,at 2019 BFA AGM he however declared his candidacy claiming that football people want him again for the top post.
