Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA) 2019 national champions Prisons Boxing Club are yet to receive their P10 000.00 cash prize from the association. SPORTSNATION staffer Kabelo Seleka with the insights.
The boxing champions Prisons Boxing Club had obtained five silverware,two gold medals and three silver medals to lead the 2019 BOBA National Championship ranks subsequently crowned champions just ahead of EMG Boxing Club having qualified eight boxers to the last four stages of the tourney.
The winners of BOBA Championship are rightfully awarded a P10 000.00 cash prize and a trophy,of interest nine months later Prison Boxing Club have not received their Championship stipends.
PRISONS BOXING CLUB SUSPECTS FOUL PLAY
An insider within BOBA National Champions Prisons Boxing Club has narrated to SPORTSNATION how corrupt and evil the decision to not reward their club came to see the light of the day.
The insider lamented that it has been accused of not meeting eight fights minimum requirements for their boxer Eto Dibetso to compete in BOBA National Championship.
The insightful insider has in-sighted to this publication that when they suggested that the records of the boxer be put under the microscope,the blue book went AWOL.
The BOBA affiliate also feels that the officials are conflicted as the same decision makers are unofficial coaches and officials at participating clubs.
The insider also argues that it it senseless to recompense individual prizes and accolades to Prisons Club boxing if they are not pursed as a team.
BOBA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS RECEIVED NO FEEDBACK TO DATE
BOBA National Champions Prisons Boxing has reportedly wrote a letter demanding the payment for their victory.
The association however has remained mum to its affiliates including other stakeholders regarding the matter.
BOBA AFFILIATES AMICABLY AGREED TO NOT REWARD PRISONS BOXING
A mule close to the events has echoed to SPORTSNATION that it was agreed in a short brief that Prisons Boxing will not be paid, just before the kickoff of the championship.
The mule lamented that after suspecting that Prisons Boxing is competing with an illegible boxer,it should rather not be given any prize money for the progress of the national boxing championship tournament.
The mule has opined that Prisons Boxing has rather not agreed nor disagreed with the motion but rather a decision was taken in the presence of their officials.
Commenting on the decision,the insider from Prisons Boxing Club has argued that they want it in writing not something verbally presented sugar-caned with emotions.
“There is nothing concrete that we can talk about that it was said by a group of coaches,we believe in decisions going on record in writing,therefore the decision is null and we will be waiting for an official feedback regarding our prize money,said the insider.”
BOBA VICE PRESIDENT GILBERT KHUNWANE SAYS THE MATTER HAS BEEN CONCLUDED
In a telephone interview with SPORTSNATION,BOBA Vice President Gilbert Khunwane has cemented that the matter of 2019 BOBA National Championship price money has long been dealt with.
Gilbert Khunwane said that following a query by other clubs that Prisons Boxing Club is using a suspected defaulter,it was amicably agreed by the concerned parties that Prisons Boxing will not be given any prize money of some sort.
“The matter is long concluded,Prisons boxing club also agreed with the decision,it has also admitted to the ineligibility of the boxer,he said.”
He added that there is a lot of forgery involved in local boxing circles by clubs in boxers blue books.Gilbert Khunwane further noted that the concerned boxer’s blue book was not correlating with other boxers said to have recorded a bout with.
The BOBA Vice President who is responsible for the technicalities of the local sweet science has proposed to this publication that a database is being developed to keep record of Botswana boxing.
Meanwhile, BOBA National Champions P10 000.00 prize money is believed to be in the hands of the boxing authority to date.
BOBA National Championship tournament is Botswana boxing’s elite competition hosted annually where the best performers are crowned champions and individual talents fight for a slot in the national team.
