VANYA KLARICH WINS BOTSWANA OPEN

GABORONE:Botswana’s Vanya Klarich emerged a victor as she vigorously championed the ladies singles category at the just ended Motor Center Open 2018 hosted in Gaborone at the slaughter house Notwane Courts over the President’s holidays.

Because of the nature of being top seeded,Vanya got a bye in the pleminaries,she then easily won against Monnayoo Kelebogile in the quater finals by 6/1 6/0 to make a matchup with Thato Madikwe where she continued to showcase her good form as she grapped the game by 6/0 6/0 to advance to the finals which she eventually won against Ngosa Nthabiseng 6/1 6/1.

In the ladies doubles Vanya and Kgopi lost to the eventual winners Ngosa and Monyatsi.

Speaking to Sportsnation after the match,Vanya said that her goal was to capitalize on her opponents mistakes to win.

“it was just important to keep consistent,its one of my strength, and just move to get to the ball and make the opponent make a mistake.”said Vanya.

Vanya elaborated that she was a bit nervous before the final but as time progressed she settled.She also further noted that she started very slow and picked as the match gets older.

She won her first championship as a 14 year old,now at a college level she continues to dominate local tennis circles.

“I have been playing tennis since  I was five years old,its been a couple of times since I played Botswana open and I think I was 14 when I first won it”said Vanya.

Vanya decreed of lack of competitions at an elite level besides appreciating development mechanisms in place by BTA.

“we have more development for junior but the problem is when you pass under 18 with less competitions is probably the biggest challenge”said Vanya

In other matches the Sibandas met at the men singles final,Lefa of Botswana and Melhuli of Zimbabwe.Melhuli won the final by 6/2 6/3 to claim Motor Center Open Crown.

Men doubles title was won by a duo made up of Jason Raymond and Mutungamire.

In ladies double Ngosa and Monyatsi won Maplanka and partner in the final to take the title home.

Msiza Tshangase won the veterans category  by winning 6/0 6/0 against Bogatsu Onneetse.

The prize money for the winners is sponsored by the loyal Toyota Motor Center to a tune of P93 850 00.

From the 3rd to the 6th of August the juniors under the age of 18 will battle it out still sponsored by Toyota.
