​TSOSELETSO MAGANG REQUESTS AUTONOMY AT BOBA

GABORONE:Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) Acting Chairperson Tsoseletso Magang has requested for an autonomous Local Organizing Committee(LOC) for the upcoming Gaborone  AFBC Zone IV Boxing Championship when officially launching the LOC yesterday at Botho University in Gaborone.  

Botswana is hosting Zone IV Boxing Championship 2019 edition after previously hosting it in 2013.

The tournament which has attracted interest of 12 regional nations will kick start on the 23rd of April and end on the 28th of the same month at Botho University.

A team of experienced former boxers and administrators were unveiled yesterday at the LOC and team Botswana launch to organize and host the much anticipated punch festival. Interestingly, the LOC is made up of all BOBA exco members except the President.

The keynote speaker Tsoseletso Magang urged that the LOC should be given an opportunity to freely prepare,host and organize the regional tourney.

Tsoseletso Magang said that LOC tend to fail their mission because of the executive meddling in their business.

tsoseletso Magang wished the LOC all the best of luck. Magang also stressed the importance of delinquently hosting the competition as it comes at a cheaper price compared to traveling nations.

“We must give them the independence to host and organize this event.”Said Magang.

For his part in his accepting speech,The Chairperson of the LOC France Mabiletsa,stated that he and his team accepted the challenge with full knowledge of only four weeks to work under.

“On behalf of the LOC,I wish to thank the BOBA board and the BNSC for trusting in us,by affording us to lead the preparations for zone 4 championship,we all accepted the task fully aware that we only had four weeks from date of appointment to deliver the tournament,and we all accepted and said we will deliver in those four weeks so trust in us that we will work day and night to make sure that come the 24th when the tournament begins all preparations as per known standard will be met.”Emphasized Mabiletsa.

Mabiletsa confirmed that Botho University will be the venue for hosting the prestigious regional tourney. Mabiletsa further noted that negotiations are at advanced stages with  relevant stakeholders from Ave Marina in Gaborone to have athletes accommodation.The chairman also alluded that they are in talks with several media house to cover the event.

Following a series of requests by Botswana Boxing Association(BOBA) for a total tune of P700 000 from BNSC, Mabiletsa confirmed that they indeed received the money for the hosting of the competition.

Mabiletsa narrated that they also engaged prominent sports figures to sell Botswana during medal award ceremony.The UB boxing boss also mentioned that in an effort to engage the public they have a representative in the LOC.

“We have also drafted motho wa Sports Volunteer Movement into our committee yoo elegoreng keene our liaison between us and the volunteers we want to use in the tournament.”Added Mabiletsa.

BOBA President, Dr Thato Patlakwe said  that the tournament will be beneficial as seven of local referees and Judges will be elevated to the next level rank.

Patlakwe further elaborated that as they have home advantage the hope that team Botswana will perform beyond expectations to even qualify for the lucrative Toyko 2020 Olympics.

Arrival of the guests and matching of the bouts is expected to take place on the 23rd while the official fights will start on the 24th.
