TREASURE MOREMI`S TOKYO 2020 DREAM SHATTERS

BY:Kabelo Seleka

GABORONE:
Botswana’s lightweight King of boxing, Tressure Moremi’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic dream disappeared abruptly after he missed an opportunity to ring dance at the just ended All Africa Games held in Rabat, Morocco.

The aggressively speedy boxer Treasure Moremi, received the depressing news that he will not be part of the competitors at the games. This came from his technical team just days before the tournament kick started.

Treasure, was dropped from the participants of the continental showpiece because of the newly introduced weight Olympic categories. His weight is 60kg and is not listed among the new ranks.

OLYMPICS CATEGORIES DO NOT RECOGNIZE 60KG

Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA), assembled Tokyo 2020 team using Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOCA) categories which does recognize the 60kg.

Botswana which has a team made up of a natural 56kg George Molwantwa, had to move to 57kg while underrated 64kg national champion Pitso Mmopiemang, had to drop to 63kg, thereby leaving Treasure Moremi out of the equation.

A source close to the events revealed to this publication, that Treasure Moremi will now have to fight for a spot with Molwantwa since he is more of a lightweight than a welterweight.

TOUGH COMPETITION FOR TREASURE MOREMI

The mole further said, that it is going to be tough for Treasure since Molwantwa is highly rated in the 57kg division. Should Treasure move to 63 kg, it will be difficult for him to penetrate through to other categories.

The national team coach Master Luza, declined to comment on the matter but rather focused on other boxers who will be active in the tournament.

The coach further indicated that the team cannot afford to be distracted with these developments from Rabat.

“Its water under the bridge. I have four more male boxers and three female boxers, and so far so good,’’ argued Luza.
.
The DTCB Boxing Club star Treasure Moremi, lamented that it is not the end of the road for him.

Treasure pins his hope on the upcoming Olympic qualifiers for boxing.VIA@ www.weekendpost.co.bw/wp-news-details.php?nid=6751
