SEGAKOLODI DIDUKANYANE (21) IS THE NEXT STAR OF WOMEN FOOTBALL

Segakolodi Didukanyane’s love, passion, and commitment for football have yielded for her, the 21-year-old girl from Tsabong started playing football at the age of 12.
“Nunuberry”, as mostly called countrywide has shown great talent, and has raised many hopes from Batswana to be the next star in the women’s league, and luckily to continue where the current Mares captain Bonang Otlhagile will leave.
Segakolodi Didukanyane started her career in football back then in 2012 when she was still at Tsabong Primary School, which later saw her playing for Tiger Girls, a women’s football club in Tsabong.
She then moved to Mexican Girls football club in Gaborone where she got more exposure and being recognized as one of the promising and upcoming youngsters.
“I saw her playing during my random visit in Tsabong and the time I saw her she was doing standard 7, after her form 3 final examinations I spoke with her parents to allow me to take her in and they agreed to my request and she has been under my care since”, says a proud Mexican Girls founder, Moeti Oaitse.
Nunuberry who is the current Mexican Girls captain has some individual awards which she won while she was still at school since she has long developed the love for football when she was still at Primary School.
She won the best player in school in 2013 at Primary level, best player in football at Tsabong Junior during her 3 years Junior school stay, and best female player again in 2017 at Gaborone Senior Secondary School.
Didukanyane did not only achieve individually, but she went on to win the 2014/15 season league with Tiger Girls at Tsabong. She also won the 2017-18 Kweneng Football League and Kweneng Independence Cup with his new club Mexican Girls.
In the 2018-19 season, Nunuberry went on to add another silverware with Mexican Girls after defending their Kweneng league title and Independence Cup.
Mexican Girls skipper also had the chance to play football at the international level, she has five caps for the National under 20 team, and three caps for the senior national team so far.

SEGAKOLODI DIDUKANYANE`S PASSION AND TALENT IS PAYING OFF

Her impressive career attracted some companies such as Ghodrati Foundation which came to help nurture the talent of this little girl with the belief that she still got more to offer to the nation.
Segakolodi Didukanyane became the recipient of the 2021 Ghodrati Foundation athletes scholarship and is now studying Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at New Era College, together with her teammate at Mexican Girls, Rethabile “Letty” Segojwe.
The Tsabong born star thanked Ghodrati Foundation as well as Mexican Girls team for giving her a lifetime opportunity after receiving the scholarship.
“I am very proud of myself because I am the first person to go to college in my family. Growing up in a village with limited resources is not easy at all, hence I take this moment to thank the Mexican girl’s football team for identifying me, bringing me to their team and affording me this opportunity to study,” she explained.
The young talented Tsabong born star future looks promising and at the age of 21, she is one of the youngest players to captain an elite league team.
