Boxing National team Captain Mmusi Tswiige says he is not retiring from international boxing any time soon following a missed opportunity to ring dance at Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
The Botswana’s most celebrated star boxer has been snubbed in the latest Lechezhani Master Luza’s squad.
The squad is on camp break in preparations for the World Boxing Championship to be held at Paris,France.
The Paris World Championship is used as the last qualification tournament for Tokyo 2021 Olympics, unfortunately it is certain that Tswiige will not be making history by qualifying for the Olympics following his snubbing.
Tswiige who punched his way to the limelight in 2013 at Zone IV Boxing Championship held in Botswana spoke to this publication that he is disappointed to not have been called to try his Olympic luck one last time after failing to qualify at Africa qualification event held in February at Dakar,Senegal.
The 31 year old believes he still has what it takes and there are other competitions coming. Tswiige declined to comment and said that only Botswana Boxing Association(BOBA) can answer to his snubbing but he is still much around in the international scenes.
Tswiige`s club official at Prisons Boxing Club Tanaka Rauwe was flabbergasted to even learn that there is a camp for the national team.
When reached for a comment,BOBA mouthpiece Taolo Tlouetsile argued that the age factor came to play when selecting a new squad where strictly it was selected under budget.
“Why are you asking me only about Tswiige, how about others,it was at the cost of BNOC which instructed us to select under a tight budget, age was a factor too, said Tlouetsile.”
The oldest national team boxer Tswiige if given a chance and qualified would have been the second oldest Motswana Tokyo Olympiad after Amantle Montsho who recently qualified at the age of 36.
