GABORONE:Malawian netball team yesterday had a victorious game after an intriguing match for them playing against Botswana at day 6 of the ongoing AUSC Region 5 Youth Games in the University of Botswana Sports Indoor Arena winning by 55-50 against the hosts.
Malawi smashed Botswana young girls with 55 baskets to 50 those of Botswana. This was the last game of Botswana on the on going games after losing all their games. Speaking in an interview with Malawi coach , she said ” touching on the preparations towards the whole games, we aimed at getting to the finals but mostly taking gold medals home” .
She further touched on the game against Botswana saying that the girls did not play as they expected because they where aiming 80 baskets but only managed to get 55. She concluded by saying that, in order to win games, they need to have a good plan and have enough training and also mentioned that they are enjoying in Botswana because of friendly people and mostly the hospital which motivates them to be free and get ready for today’s game.
On the other hand, speaking in an interview with Botswana coach Ms Boipelo Makwatse after losing their last game, she explained that the players lack exposure and but when they were playing against Malawi,they where showing that the are growing comparing them to their first game where they where failing to connect well during the match.Makwatse continued saying ” looking at the whole games we played soo far, we did not do well the reason being that,we did not have enough time with the girls to prepare for this games. We trained about 15 times this year.”Makwatse concluded by wishing their opponent all the best during their finals.
Malawi previous game played against Namibia winning them 68~29 while Botswana was playing against Zambia where they lost 40~52. The team is facing South Africa during finals today at 12 noon. South Africa played against Namibia 77~19 the results that allowed them to the finals. Still yesterday, Lesotho played Namibia 52~50 while Zimbabwe won Zambia 48~42.
Region 5 Youth Games today marks day 7 where a victor is expected to be unveiled.
