MASCOM TOP 8 LOSS DOES NOT DENT ME FOR THE ZEBRAS JOB-MAKWENGWE

BY:Kabelo Seleka

FRANCISTOWN:Gaborone United chief tactician Phillimon Makwengwe says 2-0  loss to Jwaneng Galaxy in Francistown stadium yesterday during the Mascom Top 8  cup final does not dent his chances of becoming Botswana National team coach following the vacancy available at Botswana Football Association(BFA).

The post for the national team coach became vacant after the firing of Major David Bright who according to the association could not fulfill ambitions of the Zebras in FIFA rankings, regional and world stages.

In the meantime the award winning former mentor for Township Rollers and Orapa United Mogomotsi Teenage Mpote is temporarily in the hot sit to guide the team in their last match of the AFCON qualifiers against Angola this month while the search for a permanent job poster is ongoing.

Makwengwe who is a celebrated football coach for winning the Coca Cola cup in 2012 with GU and recently  helped  Prisons XI gain Botswana Premier League status from First Division has been lately before coming back to coaching being involved in huge developmental programs for local coaches.

When speaking to the media after a poor showpiece in the top 8 final Makwengwe said the loss does not make him a bad coach to be afforded a chance to be a national team coach.

“it has not dented me,I have lost this one I have to look for another one(silverware)”said Makwengwe.

The outspoken tactician further alluded that local coaches are not given a chance and recognition they deserve to coach big teams and eventually national team.

“the local coaches are not getting the recognition, the are not deserving the big money from the rich teams so they can not blossom,I dont blame them because when a team becomes richer they go for Alex Ferguson,”alludes Makwengwe.

The GU gaffer says even if BFA  offer him the coaching job he is not interested at the moment except if it is for junior teams because he is fully concentrated in reviving Gaborone United to dominate locally and partake in the CAF competitions.

On his post match interview,Makwengwe said that his team did not come to party and they could not close Galaxy on the wings.

Meanwhile the tournament winning coach Miguel Da Costa expressed delight for his players commitment to the football club’s goals and visions.

Da Costa said he will be delighted if his team wins treble.

“if we can do  it is going to be amazing, now that we won this, that is the most important, now we need to focus on the championship and then the FA cup,”Da Costa

Galaxy were crowned season 8 Mascom Top 8 champions  after a crucial pass from Tebogo Sembowa early in the match which found Thero Setsile unmarked to easily tap into the sticks, the winger got his second goal of the tournament to share the yellow boot with Tebogo Sembowa,Obonwe Maome,Tumisang Orebonye and Kamogelo Matsabu.

Atisang Batsi cemented the Galaxy championship by getting his shot on target to help his team win two nil in last half on the game.
