BOTSWANA BOXING WINS 2019 ZONE IV BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

GABORONE:Botswana’s number one sweetsciece mentor Lechezhani “Master” Luza has led Team Botswana to a successful ring dancing at the just ended AFBC Zone IV boxing championship held in Botswana recording six gold medals, silver and two bronze medals surpassing team Botswana’s five gold medal target to win the highly rated tourney.  

Botswana which had targeted five gold medals won the championship which was ignited on the 23rd of April in Botho University with a total of 9 medals resulting in =3 rank positioning in spot number one..Botswana earned maximum points because of many gold medals over other neighboring nations.  

The defending champions Mozambique fell in position two after getting a =3 rank after 9 medals in total.South Africa and Angola followed respectively on position three and four with an accumulation of =1 after getting 10 medals each.Team Botswana ringed eleven boxers in the African Championship qualifier showdown benching 64 kg sensational Kabo Seitshiro over Pitso Mmopiemang who was eliminated in his first bout. Tefo Maitewa was also in the stands.

Botswana was well represented in the ladies category accumulating two gold medals and a bronze.One gold medal came from Botswana’s undisputed fly weight ring dancer Lethabo Modukanele. Modukanele finished off Tembo Magret of Zambia in the finals.

Modukanele’s team mate at UB Boxing Aratwa Kaseemang marched her national team assistant captain with a gold. Keamogetswe Kenosi settled for first bronze after successfully failing to convince the cards masters.

Botswana captain, Mmusi Tswiige was a marvel to sight in the finals of the regional tourney as he necked gold after easily punishing Goma Alfonso of Angola. DTCB boxing sensational and local light weight king Treasure Moremi uppercutted influenza virus through the tournament to win Gold against the experience of Lesotho’s Mhlerepe Qhubusheane in the final.

The eventual boxer of the tournament and Botswana’s number one Rajab Mohammed grabbed Gold with a splendid and highly technically and tactically awoke approach.George Molwantwa also necked gold after an accelerating act in the squared circle from the onset.

The new rookie in the international arena Kobamelo Molatlhegi ignited the gold rush with a silver medal after matching the unstoppable Zambia’s AUSC Region 5 wonder kid Patrick Chinyimba in the final.

Two time light welterweight national champion Pitso Mmopiemang scooped second bronze after totally being out boxed in the semi-finals.

Coach Luza mentioned that he enjoyed the tournament and was happy with the competition. Luza further lamented that even though they brought minimum boxers to the tournament they went ahead and clinched the championship as the host nation.

“We had a lot of ups,we took seven to the finals,of course we lost two bouts in the semi-finals,but its okay,its a competition,we redeeming our boxing our pride.”.Alluded patriotic Luza

With nine medals and a tournament trophy in Botswana’s cabinet,Botswana National Olympic Committee(BNOC) is committed to sponsor gold and silver medalist from the zone iv championship to the All Africa Games boxing which will be held in Morocco late this year.
