Letsile Tebogo never cease to amaze when it comes to pulling off the unthinkable, he did it again over the weekend at Botswana Athletics Association (BAA)`s second edition of track and field series staged at Obed Itani Chilume stadium.
The 18 year old scooped position one ahead of Tumiso Gabonamongwe and Unametse Nyathi respectively in a highly anticipated 400m event.
The World Athletics U20 100m champion showed the athletics fanatics his running prowess in his first ever official 400m race.
He registered a personal best time of 46:09 just 2:37 seconds from
Isaac Makwala`s 43:72 national record.
The 100m specialist’s performance qualified him for the World Athletics 400m U20 Championships and Africa Senior Championships respectively.
LETSILE TEBOGO USES 400m TO PREPARE
Kanye born star told SPORTSNATION that he competed in 400m race as part of the preparations for the upcoming events this year.
“We were doing the 400m race because we have a plan for all the upcoming races, so it’s part of our 2022 plan,” Tebogo Letsile told SPORTSNATION.
After the race, the sensational sprinter expressed how happy he was for emerging the winner in a race he is not used to, he lamented that he is out of words as he loves how he performed.
“I am really out of words, all I can say is am happy about everything that has happened,” Tebogo said.
Letsile Tebogo is the first Motswana to win a gold medal in an International 100m race, he is currently the national 100m record holder, a feat he obtained after smashing
Isaac Makwala‘s seven year old record of 10:20 s slicing it to 10:11s.
The on form short distance sprinter says he has his eyes set in this year’s World Athletics and Africa Senior Championship.
