Botswana’s number one female boxing sensation Keamogetse Kenosi has gone into history books of the sweet science as the first female boxer to qualify for the Olympics following her silver medal display at the just ended Tokyo 2020 boxing tourney hosted at Dakar,Senegal.
The DTCB Boxing Club star is said to have been a known school bully before joining boxing.Little known that 8 years later she will be famed for Olympics.
Keamogetse Kenosi who erupted into the spotlight at the all famous Gaborone Africa Youth Games 2014 has for a long time dominated local boxing circles but failed to make a mark internationally.
This time around Keamogetse Kenosi did not only be the only female from Botswana to date to qualify for the Olympics from boxing but the first boxer to qualify for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
National team mentor Lezhezhani “Master” Luza delightedly alluded that Keamogetse Kenosi’s hardwork has fruited. Luza said the secret was in specialized training during training camps.
“Hardwork and more hardwork. Individualized training was also key since athletes are different,said Luza.”
The 23 year old Kenosi who could not hide his excitement lamented to Sportsnation that her hardworking has finally paid off.She further noted that she did all the goods deeds due to her corners.
“It means a lot to me… It shows that i have been working hard.I have managed to stay at the top by working hard,listening to my coaches,taking advises from anyone,that has helped me a lot to focus,narrated Kenosi.”
His club coach Thebe Setlalekgosi echoed that he has always believed in Kenosi from the beginning. Setlalekgosi said Kenosi posses too much talent.
“Sadie(Kenosi) has a very special talent.For her is more talent than hard work,she is a lazy athlete but very abiding,boxing is physically demanding and most boxers hate training,so over the years i have managed to work more on her strengths,exclaimed Setlalekgosi.”
