BREAKING: KEAMOGETSE KENOSI(25) DEFENDS HER AFRICAN CROWN

Botswana’s number one female boxer Keamogetse Kenosi has been crowned African Champion at the ongoing ABFC Men’s and Women’s Championship held in Maputo, Mozambique.

Kenosi won Sakobi Marcelat of the Democratic Republic of Congo by unanimous decision in the women’s 57Kg final to walk away with just over P100 000 and Gold, defending the title she won at the latest edition of the biggest African showdown in 2019 at Morocco in All Africa Games. Kenosi defended her crown to make a mark on the continent’s women`s category.

When speaking to this publication after the bout, she said “ I’m happy we took it. Defended it like champions. It belongs home”.The talented pugilist emphasized that she is back to her best.

“I think we have recovered now…we are back in shape…so we continue like this”, stressed Kenosi.

Sadie as affectionately known to her wellwishers had a string of uncertainties about the national team call-up following a fallout with the technical team at the Tokyo 2020 Games camp. Nonetheless, the 25-year-old warrior returned to her best under the tutelage of her club and national team mentor Thebe Setlalekgosi.

When speaking to this publication recently, the national team coach Setlalekgosi stated that;

“We need to keep them engaged in training, systematic training is very important, and then, of course, they need more international exposure to different types of boxers in order to bring forth appealing performance for the national team”.

Meanwhile, Botswana won five medals in total, two bronze, two silver, and one gold. Kenosi solely won the gold, Aratwa Kasemang, and George Molwantwa with silver medals while Bele Phekie, Lethabo Modukanele and

Keamogetse Sadie Kenosi is a Botswana boxer. She competed in the women’s featherweight event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She lost to Karriss Artingstall of Great Britain in the first round. Originally a netball player, Kenosi began boxing in 2015 as per Wikipedia.
