I AM NOT NEW IN THIS GAME-TEENAGE MPOTE

BY;Phodiso Gaebepe

FRANCISTOWN: The much anticipated, long awaited final of the Orange FA Cup 2019 produced a spectacular and a surprise in a mouth watering encounter.

The tournament came with a new sponsor in Orange with the prize money of seven hundred thousand.   The last one was sponsored by Coca-cola, Bopha Skelem as it is affectionately known produced an unexpected result as most people anticipated a Township Rollers win because of the dominance it has been showing.

Six years ago with Gaborone United being champions with local a Phillimon Makgwengwe.   National team caretaker coach Mogomotsi “Teenage”Mpote has pulled an upset, horror and disgruntlement to his former employer Township Rollers after winning the cup before their fully packed fans 3-0 in a fully packed Francistown Sports Complex thanks to Orapa United’s Mbatshi Elias,Omaatla Kebatho and Tendei Nyomasi on target shots. This was a shock to the Rollers family and the nation at large because of the margin.

The score line could have been more had Orapa utilized their clear cut chances. Just after the fourth official signaled that two minutes was added for the first half to finish, Orapa almost scored through Gofaone Mabaya who did not take his time on the ball and hit the already down Keagile Kgosipula. Omaatla Kebatho also missed a penalty in the first half which could have increased the margin.

During the post match interview Mpote said people are only knowing about him now whereas he is not new in this game. He said he has been there for long and has the necessary experience. He took us back into memory lane and said he is the one who promoted Miscellaneous SC, he also promoted BR Highlanders.

The time Mochudi Center Chiefs was dominating the league he went to Township Rollers with a mandate to stop it and eventually he succeeded. Right now Rollers is the one dominating and needs to be stopped. Mpote said a coach needs to prove himself with different teams and win games.

“As a coach I know how capable I am, people just see me now but I have been in this industry for quiet some time. If u remember the person whom promoted Miscellaneous is me, who promoted BR Highlanders is me.”Said Mpote.

Mpote`s CV is beginning to shine as he has been doing very well this season when one looks at his overall performance he would notice a good run of good performances.

He finished 3rd in the BTC Premiership, was a finalist of the just ended COSAFA cup and now a winner of the Orange FA Cup.
