GENETIC MAKE UP SIGNIFICANT FOR ATHLETICISM-LUZA

BY:Kabelo Seleka

GABORONE:Lechedzani “Master” Luza says that the heavyweight division in Botswana needs a strategic approach in recruiting the participants to the sport of Boxing.

The 40 year old boxing mentor Luza noted that naturally Batswana are people of 65-70kg on weights and when they train they will  go down to lower weights.

He solicited that people with a desired genetic makeup must be recruited to fill-up the division especially at a young age and at areas usually characterized by such people in Botswana.

On the issue of  shortage of lady boxers,the 2002 commonwealth flyweight silver Star said if there are 5 lady  bouts he is happy looking at the challenges facing women in sports.

In an interview on BLOW BY BLOW on regarding the 9th June inter-club tourney he believes  for Khumalo Chabulula to match Lentswe Zwinila who is a hard puncher for sure in the 69kg category is tremendous looking at the fact that he was off the ring for a while, and even managed to finish a bout.

Luza continued to elaborate that the bout between  Rajab Mohammed and Tefo Maitewa was a bit full of friendship.

“It was a bit of too much friendship in the sense that the boxers have been training together,3-4 months, you didn’t expect for them to go out there and beat the hell out of each other, enna too technical”Said Luza.

On Kefentse Molalapata and Treasure Moremi bout,he said that Captain Molalapata started really slow,he also said that in the amateur boxing if a boxer dominates the first round, the chances are that he will win the bout spontaneously.

He however commended Treasure Moremi for his pluck to go against a seasoned boxer like Molalapata.Molalapata had moved up to 64kg to acclimatize himself as international boxers in his category are more or less like 64kg locally.

Lechedzani “Master” Luza was happy with some improvement in terms of the arrangement, participation and the attendance of the 9th June tourney hosted at UB Student Center.
