EXTENSION GUNNERS MAY RELEGATE THIS SEASON(2021/2022)
BY:Kabelo Seleka
The poor start of the Lobatse based side Extension Gunners FC in 2021/22 Botswana Football League contestation may lead them to their darkest days of football by an imminent relegation to the First Division.
As I see it, Gunner’s start of BPL season is not impressive to the fans, management nor any other stakeholder in the local football fraternity hence relegation is inevitable for the sorry Peleng giant.
Following the axing of their coach Molefe Motlhala,I am compelled to break the silence and firmly state that Gunners is seedling for lower-division football. The poor coach is expected to bring results to a team that is widely known for not paying players salaries. It’s simple you cant win with hungry players.
The first three fixtures by Gunners also have a big impact on the status quo. Gunners played three matches thus far and unfortunately, it played against arguably league contenders in Gaborone United, Orapa United, and Township Rollers. It is a known fact that playing against these giants getting a draw is something to write about back home. However, Gunners is also a big household name in its own right, but coming against these giants in the opening games with the circumstances that are within Gunners is a recipe for relegation.
EXTENSION GUNNERS NEEDS LEADERS
The quality of the experience squad members is questionable. A big team like Gunners should have recognizable names as a combination of young talent and experienced veterans in their squad.
From my standpoint, only Dirang Moloi and a few others are big names, one should remember that even when you have 11 Dirang Moloi’s in your first team if he is not paid he will never inspire his teammate not to relegate. The team needs leaders to understand to work and fight for the badge before anything else.
Nonetheless, the league is still new, it is a marathon and it might be early to judge but if Gunners does not get its house in order, it will ply its trade next season at the first division for the first time in history.
