CASTER SEMENYA`S APPEAL DISMISSED 1 YEAR LATER

Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court dismissed Caster Semenya’s case appeal of a prior ruling made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in 2019.
The ruling ordered Caster Semenya to take testosterone reducing drugs.
Following the ruling, Caster Semenya would now be able to compete in her famous 800 m race.
Caster Semenya’s naturally high testosterone levels have been the subject of controversy and regulation in the past.

CASTER SEMENYA LOWERED HER TESTOSTERONE LEVEL FOR 5 YEARS

For five years, the 29-year-old track star opted to take birth control in order to lower her testosterone levels but says she will no longer do so, citing the medication’s unwanted side effects, including making her injury-prone.
“A man can change the rules but the very same man can not rule my life, I am a pure athlete. I’m not going to change because of any man. I can run any event I want. It can be 200 meters, it can be 400. It can be a long jump, it can be heptathlon. I am a talented athlete. Even if I have to withdraw from 800 meters, it doesn’t matter anymore.” – Caster Semenya, the two-time Olympic 800 meters champion voicing herself after the ruling.
The world Athletics body World Athletics Association(WAA) on the other hand has welcomed the ruling by the Swiss Supreme Court citing it’s a step forward in dealing with differences in the female sexuality representation.
This means it is unlikely the two-time Olympic gold medalist will be able to defend her title in her signature event, the 800-meter race, in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
