OPINION:BTV NOT GOOD FOR OUR SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

In a world where television is everything when it comes to sports, Botswana is not part of that conversation as it finds it’s self still struggling to have a fully fledged sports channel to broadcast games.

BTV is a national broadcaster and thus making it have a lot in their plate than people think, it has to satisfy many sectors in a week and only provides 6 hours of sports on the weekend. This is far from enough because teams nowadays generate income through broadcast rights and if you are not shown on TV it’s a loss.

Making things worse is that the current deal of broadcasting premier league games is cashless, how will teams that are already struggling sustain themselves.

We need a full time broadcaster not BTV as in like Supersport to come and help as they did in South Africa, even Kwese Sports is ideal as it still trying to increase its footprints in the sporting world.

Teams like Kaizer Chiefs are benefiting millions of rands every season, the money they use to pay players and develop as a club and we could see that happening to the likes of Gunners and Rollers as they have a big following.
