Botswana Tertiary Education Student Sport Association(BOTESSA) in collaboration with Botswana Boxing Association(BOBA) this past weekend hosted the first ever BOTESSA boxing tournament at BUAN in which comes as a tool to revive the sports at varsity level,said former national boxing youth prospect Wame “Tyson” Mathose.
The pilot tourney for the provisional partnership has attracted 14 boxers from 4 divisions amounting to 7 bouts.The schools which registered for ring dancing are Botho University,UB,RTC,Maun Technical College,Molepolole College of Education,L/Brigade and BIUST.
BOTESSA and BOBA are said to be in diplomatic negotiations and ready to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) to work together in establishing boxing at tertiary level.
BOBA President Thato Patlakwe announced recently at the associations substantive Ordinary General Meeting(OGM) that they are at advanced talks to have boxing as one of Botessa activities.
“We are engaged with Botswana Tertiary Education Student Sport Association to have boxing competition included in their programmes,a task team has been set and had looked into the capacity in Botessa afflites and more work is done behind closed doors as well as drafting of MOU/MOA,exclaimed Patlakwe.”
For his part,Botessa President Keorapetse Setlhare narrated how delighted they are to have boxing in Botessa.Keorapetse further echoed that they will introduce more sporting codes with time into the tertiary sports authority calender.
“This is a milestone to have a boxing tournament,in the past we introduced rugby as Botessa,in near future we will introduce other sporting codes such as cycling,lamented Setlhare.”
Gaborone 2014 Africa Youth Games sensational Mathose babbled that the
BOTESSA games are the right platform for him to excel.
“BOTESSA games are good for my boxing because just like BISA and Botswana Games, it is platform where I can play with different styles and experience and I will grow thereby. If I am selected in the national team squad, it will be yet another opportunity for me to gain exposure as I will play with boxers from other country. I am chasing my dream to be a professional boxer one day and all the tournaments are milestone towards my career,said Mathose.”
BOBA has recommended to the tertiary sports authority to host another tournament soon to select national team for July Lesotho CUCSA Games.
