GABORONE:Botswana National Olympic Committee(BNOC) has got into cordial partnership with Botswana Integrated Sports Association(BISA) with the intention of reaching out to young people as much as possible in through BISA with Olympic Values Education Program(OVEP) today 5th of December at the BNOC offices in Fairgrounds Holdings Gaborone.
According to International Olympic Committee website,physical activity and sport have significant benefits for health, well-being and youth development. Sport can be a fantastic tool for outcomes such as peace, holistic education and social development.
Recognizing the unique potential of sport as an educational and communication tool, OVEP is a practical set of learning resources designed to inspire the atletes.
The IOC is for the Olympic Movement in creating the bridge between Olympic ideals and performance. Between overall participation and elite performance.The OVEP goes beyond geo-political and artificial boundaries and aims to create a sustainable platform to address societal issues such as healthy life style,gender balance and more.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the President of BNOC Col Botsang Tshenyego said that the focus is to focus in empowering learners in and out of school through the best tool which is sports. He mentioned that ” Sports is the best ambassador in whatever you pursue”. He further explained that, they are highly looking forward to work with BISA in assisting to build young people and ensuring that they make best and responsible decisions in whatever they make in their lives personally as well as in the community at large.For his part, the President of BISA Mr Joshua Gaotlhobogwe was given a great opportunity to say his word. Gaotlhobogwe said that his institution deals with supervising and coordinating sports activities in all government secondary schools of about 120 000 students. He said they are not only concerned about the joy that comes with athletes winning medals locally and internationally but they believe in holistic development of students which can be achieved through the use of OVEP which will positively make an impact in life’s of the youth. He also said that the role of sport is not only to profile the country but to help develop assertive young citizens and concluded by promising that they are looking forward to achieve all their dreams through olympic values education program.
The OVEP has since been on the rollout at Motswedi JSS,Bokamoso JSS and will soon expand to privately owned schools.
