Bidvest Wits affectionately known as “The Clever Boys” have sold their status from the South African Premier Soccer League(PSL) to the Glad-Africa Championship club Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila(TTM) Football Club with all its players.
Speaking after the takeover, TTM Chief executive, Sello Chokoe “We bought the club (Bidvest Wits) with its players and we are aware that there are those who already have offers. We will allow them to join teams of their choice and we will be working with the current Wits management to facilitate those deals‚”.
“We can’t hold on to players(Bidvest Wits players). Some of them were on big salaries and if you consider that we have just spent a lot of money buying this club‚ we will let them go”.
Already Thulani Hlatshwayo, Bidvest Wits Captain and Deon Hotto have been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates, while coach Gavin Hunt was told to search for new job as they cannot afford his big salary.
“We will also not be taking any of the current staff members of Wits because we have people who are currently Working for the club.
“Having said that‚ we are going to do everything in our power to assemble a good and competitive team for next season because we know what is expected in the PSL.”
The club Wits University FC continues to exist as an entity, however, they no longer hold a license to play in the PSL.
Tshakhuma will remain in Venda and will play their home games at Thohoyandou stadium.
Is it safe to say Bidvest Group will be the new PSL sponsor after they were mentioned to be top bidders along with betway to replace ABSA bank.?
