TALKING POINTS
- The calendar is now February-November season
- The calendar may clash with international competitions
- The Transfer window moved to December
NEW BFA FOOTBALL CALENDAR IS FEBRUARY-NOVEMBER
The reviewed BFA football calendar is set to be active from February to November 2021, this follows a halt of the local game caused by a coronavirus. Notable it shall forever be February-November season.
With months gone now without any real taste of local football, the football authority reacted with a new proposal to restart football afresh next year.
It is understood that should MacLean Letswiti remain at the helm of the association, the motion shall pass at October 10 virtual BFA General Assembly.
In a press statement by the BFA, it reads that the National Executive Committee(NEC) has decided to change the calendar.
“A decision of the NEC of 16 August 2020 to place before the General Assembly, a statutory amendment motion to facilitate for the change of Botswana football season calendar August to May to February to November, reads the BFA statement.”
THE NEW CALENDAR MAY CLASH WITH INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS
Football Analyst Phodiso Gaebepe has crashed the move by the BFA arguing that it clashes with international leagues and competitions.
Gaepebe noted that should BFA should adopt the February-November season calendar, it should be in line with FIFA activities.
The analysts optimistically revealed that the new position by the BFA may be motivated by its failure to restart the leagues this year owing to large sums of money needed in light of the COVID-19 new norm.
BFA TRANSFER WINDOW AFFECTED BY THE NEW CALENDAR
Meanwhile, the tabled motion by the BFA means that the transfer window will open on December 1st ending on February 22nd.
The new calendar is to be voted in virtually by the BFA General Assembly earmarked to be hosted in Jwaneng, Gaborone, Palapye, and Francistown.
