BY: Tirelo Mosielele
Botswana Football Association(BFA) has this past week received an amount of over 5million pula from FIFA as a relief plan from COVID -19 global pandemic repercussions.
This follows a decision by the world football governing body FIFA to distribute $150million to help against coronavirus losses to struggling football leagues.
FIFA has over the years put a helping hand to its member associations when the need arises, Botswana Football Association with its good relations with the mother body saw it become one of the beneficiaries, this time with a whopping $50 000 donation.
The donation is primarily targeting at paying players and mending some fences that have been affected by the pandemic, coving 19.
Football activities had to be haunted until further notice which resulted in no or less income by clubs to sustain their monthly wages. The association has expressed its desire to pay players directly into their accounts and cut the middle man which is the club administrators.
Nonetheless, some club officials have shown some displeasure towards this exercise citing that they will look untrustworthy to their players.
BFA has since displayed gratitude towards FIFA for responding to their call in a positive manner.
